Emancipation Day Tours: Invisible Lives

May 20 | 10am, 11:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm | Visitor’s Center

Four women. Four lives. Stories too long left untold.

On Wednesday, May 20, Goodwood Museum & Gardens will present The Invisible Lives of Goodwood Tours, a series of free, guided experiences that bring to light the lives of Susan Coles, Lucy Carter, Emily Hall, and Henriatta Williams—women who lived and labored in slavery at Goodwood and whose stories are essential to understanding its history.

Through these tours, Goodwood Museum & Gardens seeks to center the lives and experiences of these women—acknowledging their resilience while offering a fuller, more honest interpretation of the site’s history.

Tours will take place at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., and are free to attend in observance of Emancipation Day.

Outdoor Education Enrichment for Schools, Groups, and Families

Outdoor education provides a dynamic, hands-on learning experience that supports physical, cognitive, and social development. These experiences naturally spark curiosity, build inquiry and problem-solving skills, and deepen connections to family, community, and nature.

At Goodwood Museum and Gardens, our educational enrichment programs include gardening education and forest trail walks, where participants explore plant life cycles, weather patterns, and the important role of insects and pollinators—bringing learning to life through direct interaction with the natural world.  Please email Stephany at operations@goodwoodmuseum.org or call 850-877-4202 ext 222 to schedule an excursion!
